I have tumbled through rock gardens in the Himilayas, through the finish line at the Olympics, and out of bed for the last 24 years and Boeri keeps me on my feet. I love the helmets, I need the protection.
Making it to the Olympics must have been cool, what was it like?
For me it was like being in the Super Bowl or World Series, but better. To some it might be corny, but representing the US was a very cool feeling. As far as my result it could have been better, but I was very happy with the way I rode. I would have been in 12th place after the first run and that would have put me in good position for the second run, but I did not get a second run, so that was that. I look back at the whole experience as extremely positive. I went full tilt, held nothing back and blew up at the finish, it sure was exciting.
So now you have this Storm Trooper Tour, all sorts of responsibility with Red i, how do you get a chance to ride?
Well that's just the thing. I develop these schemes so it keeps me closer to the snow. I always ride, whether I am on the road traveling in the Trooper at different areas or home at Squaw where Red i is located. Most of my work is done over the phone and e-mail so traveling doesnt mess with the program, normally!
Okay, sounds like you have a plan that's for sure. What do you suggest to the kids growing up aspiring do be a professional snowboarder?
I would start by telling them that they have to be very hungry. They need to want it more than the next guy, because chances are there is someone else out there that is more talented, therefore, you need to work hard. A very basic way of knowing whether you are working hard enough. Stand in front of a mirror and ask yourself if you could have tried any harder, if you can do a better job next time. Do that when trying to reach goals and you will be very happy.
